Author: Chris Leuenberger
Chris Leuenberger studied theater at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (USA) and dance and choreography at the School for New Dance Development (NL). Based in Bern as a freelance choreographer and dancer, Chris collaborates with different artists in various contexts and constellations, keeps developing his own work and performs for others. Through the practice of yoga and pranayama he has become interested in the choreographic potential of breath, a fascination made visible and tangible throughout his artistic work. Since 2014 Leuenberger has started to collaborate more closely with author and theatre director Marcel Schwald, developing a body of work that merges choreography and autobiographical material. Their documentary dance performances KREUTZBERG (2015), EF_FEMININITY (2018) and TOUCH ISOLATION (2021) examine pressing social issues connected to gender and identity politics. While KREUTZBERG was commissioned with the Swiss culture grant "Tanzerbe Schweiz" in 2014, EF_FEMININITY was invited to the Theater Festival Impulse in Düsseldorf and the Sélection Suisse in Avignon in 2019, and TOUCH ISOLATION was selected by the Programmers' Fund of Reso - Swiss Dance Network.
